Claude Sarrailh will succeed Jeroen de Groot as METRO China CEO
Shanghai, China (March 13, 2018) - METRO China today announced that Mr. Jeroen de Groot will return to Europe to take over another METRO group assignment in this autumn. Mr. Claude Sarrailh, currently CEO MCC Italy, will take over the position of Chief Executive Officer MCC China after a transition period.
Mr. Jeroen de Groot joined METRO China as CEO on 1 November 2013 after his COO position in METRO Management Board in Germany. During his tenure in China, Jeroen has successfully transformed METRO China to a multi-channel specialist and achieved a continuous and profitable business growth. Under his leadership, METRO China rolled out digital transformation, remodeled and upgraded all Cash & Carry stores to O2O stores. He set a solid foundation for Food Service Distribution, Welfare & Gifting and E-Commerce Business. In 2015 and 2017, Jeroen was respectively awarded the Magnolia Silver and Gold Award of Shanghai Government.
Talking about his experience in China, Jeroen said, “My time in China was one of the best in my career. I am confident METRO China will continue its growth by creating more value to customers”.
Claude Sarrailh, after an educational background in Business Administration, spent the first 10 years of his career in Carrefour Group, where he took several roles in Sales and Procurement at International level. In 2006 he joined Makro Poland as Head of Non Food. In 2008 he moved to Romania to take the position of Customer Management Director. In January 2011 he took the opportunity in METRO Russia to cover the role of Procurement & Merchandising Food and Non Food Director, where, from November 2011 he was nominated also Commercial Director, while integrating Marketing Direction.
From October 2014 he was promoted to Chief Executive Officer of METRO Italy, where he guided the team to further reinforce the strategy focused on Horeca. He boosted the multichannel commercial approach, through the evolution of C&C concept and the industrialization of FSD, opening successfully the first Depot in Milan in May 2016. In March 2017 he sponsored the launch of digital METROpolitan Pilot to put the basis for the Horeca digital transformation. In 2018 MCCIT received for the fifth time the important certification of Top Employer.
Mr. Claude Sarrailh from 1st of May will lead METRO China as CEO to strive for a continuous business growth and value creation.
